Increasing Your Impressions on LinkedIn
LinkedIn has since staked its claim in many digital marketing strategies. For access to B2B connections and communities in your industry, LinkedIn is your platform of choice. With countless ways to interact with peers, potential clients, and company profiles, it’s become necessary to make space for this website in your content calendars.
LinkedIn uses a complex algorithm that determines whether or not your content is shareable on the platform. Audience engagement is one of the most important components in increasing your reach. If your posts aren’t attracting enough attention, then the algorithm behind the platform won’t promote your content outside of your core following.
So, what are Impressions and Views?
On LinkedIn, these are two separate engagement metrics that are measured. Impressions are the number of times your content has a chance of being viewed on the platform. To increase your views, you must increase your impressions.
Impressions are a critical metric to monitor because they bring insight into audience behaviors and how LinkedIn is promoting your content. Optimal posting times can be determined by which portion of the day sees increased impressions. Similarly, content can be graded by how many impressions it received; a higher amount means that LinkedIn’s algorithm decided it was worth sharing with a larger audience.
Views are then counted when your content is actually viewed. Text posts and copy are counted as “viewed” when users do as little as scrolling past it; video posts require at least 3 seconds of interaction to count as a view; posts with attached articles/blogs and posts with external links need that link to be physically clicked before it’s counted.
Views are an important metric to measure, but they show far from the whole picture - meaningful interactions can’t be determined by looking at view count alone.
How can you increase your Impressions on LinkedIn?
Luckily, digital marketing professionals have found some of the best ways to stay on top of your impressions. To find success on LinkedIn, follow these simple steps when creating and posting your content:
- Keep your content relevant to your audience/industry
- Use keywords to drive engagement and encourage the algorithm to share your content
- Check for errors in grammar, excess hashtags/links, or any clutter that may trigger LinkedIn’s spam filter
- Avoid posting too frequently, but stick to a set schedule
- Engage with community members (both on your posts and off)
- Pay to sponsor your posts
One of the most important responsibilities marketing professionals have is knowing the ins and outs of your marketing channels. Take advantage of this knowledge of LinkedIn’s impressions system when updating your strategy for 2023!
