How to Show Your Support During Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic heritage month (September 15 - October 15) commemorates several events important to those of Hispanic culture: the independence anniversaries of Latin American countries such as Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Belize. The month-long intercontinental celebrations are of a cultural significance that shouldn’t be ignored from a marketing standpoint - you can use your brand’s voice to bring further awareness to their importance.
You can use your social media presence to join in on the conversation and show your support for the Hispanic community. So, how can your brand go about this in a responsible, respectful manner? Here are a few things to remember when making content this month:
- Education is your primary goal!
Monetizing content of this type is a slippery slope. Remember that your reason for participating in any month of recognition is to educate your audience and provide support. Your content’s main focus should be on sharing information about the month; try to answer these questions: what events are being celebrated? This month isn’t about your brand, nor is it about whatever you are trying to promote through this marketing campaign. To prove that your main purpose is to further call attention to those of Hispanic heritage, make an effort to boost the voices of Hispanic creators and businesses. In 2022, it’s no longer enough to send out a quick tweet or Instagram post about how you plan on celebrating Hispanic heritage month with a sale or promo; it’s more impactful and responsible to use your established community and brand image to promote those who may have a harder time being seen. Reach out to creators and ask for collaborations - allowing them to share and discuss their culture will go a long way.
